New login procedures for computers--and note on printing

We have a new procedure for logging into the Library's computers.

If you are a student of Mercer University please follow these steps:

  1. Press "ctrl + alt + del" to get to the log-in screen:
  2. When the log-in screen appears:

    • ⇒ Enter your 8-digit MUID as the User name (e.g. 10712345)
    • ⇒ Enter your birthday (YYMMDD) as the password (e.g. if your birthday is September 4, 1981, enter 810904)

**NOTE** After your first log-in, you'll be prompted to change your password. Be sure to choose something you can easily remember, as you'll need it to log-on everytime you want to use library computers.
    • ⇒ Make sure "MERCERU" is selected in the "Log on to" box. Also, make sure the "dial-up connection" box is NOT checked.

  3. You should now be logged on to the computer.
    4.  When you're done with using the computer please log off by going to the "start" button on the bottom left of the screen  and pressing "log off."

**NOTE FOR FACULTY/STAFF** If you are a faculty or staff member, even if you are taking classes, you will use the same account information as when you log onto your e-mail account or your personal computer.

If you are an Alumni of Mercer University please see the Circulation Desk for assistance with logging onto the computer.

*NOTE ABOUT PRINTERS*  At this time some of the computers are defaulting to the color printer.  To make sure you can print your job in black and white follow these steps:

  • Go to file menu at the top left of the browser window
  • Select print
  • In the drop down menu for printer name choose "BearPrint B&W simplex"
and then print as normal.  Your job will now print at one of the black and white printers.

If you have any questions please stop by the circulation or the reference desk.

Color Printers have returned!

That's right a couple weeks ago we received a new color printer. If you'd like to print in color then you have to do the following:

When you do file/print--under printer chose either the color simplex or the color duplex.
Color simplex will print single sided and duplex double sided.

No it won't save you any money to print double sided because you'll still be charged for both pages.

Unfortunately this option is not available with the Black and White printers.

If you have any questions or problems please stop by the Reference or Circulation desk for help.

Printers are back!

We've brought back the old HP printers and they are up and running. While we no longer have color or double sided printing, we do have the speed back that we were used to before. We hope that the problems have been solved and we thank you for your patience. The Tarver Library would like to give thanks to TSS, particularly Craig Webb who has gone above and beyond to help us out with fixing these printing issues. So thanks!

Printers part 2

We had hoped that the printing problems were solved. However, over the last few days we have noticed that they have not and continue to work on trying to get these problems fixed. To that end, Thursday September 6, beginning when we open until at least 11 we will be working on the printing system again. We may have some computers closed off or ask that you move to a different one while we work on getting the printing situation resolved. If you need help during this time please come to the Reference or the Circulation desk for assistance. We are trying are hardest to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

One of the drawbacks will be that we will no longer have color printing, but we feel that getting the speed of jobs back up will help you better. If you have any questions please let us know. Thanks.

Tarver Library Printers

As you may have noticed over the summer Jack Tarver Library acquired new printers. As you may have also noticed they are not quite up to the speed and efficiency that we're all used too. Tarver Library has been working hard to attempt to resolve this issue and get the printers up to par. As such, on Thursday August 30, TSS will be installing new printers in the Tarver Library. We will have printing service during this time so please bear with us during this time and you can find assistance at either the Reference or Circulation desk.
